With the opportunity of EU Competition Policy expert, Ms Tiina Pitakanen’s visit to the Philippines, the breakfast dialogue aims to look at the main features of EU Competition Policy and how it has successfully supported the development of competitive markets across the EU. At the same time it will focus on the opportunities that the enactment of the Philippine Competition Act brings for the Philippines and the importance of applying best practices from strong competition policies, such as the EU’s, to the IRR in order to ensure its success.

Questions we hope to answer during the dialogue include, among others: What are the key characteristics of EU competition policy? What are the changes which the Philippine Competition Act aims to bring to the Philippine market structure? How can EU best practices be applied in the Philippine Competition Act through the IRR? How will existing dominant market positions in the Philippines be addressed? How does the EU see the 2 year transition period set by the Philippine Competition Act and how do we ensure that it is not misused to solidify existing market dominances? How does the Philippine Competition Act compare to the minimum requirements set in the recently concluded FTAs?
