The British Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (BCCP)  is holding a trade and investment mission in Davao City on March 30 to 31 to explore more opportunities for both local and British businesses, according to Chris Nelson, BCCP chairman said.

Nelson said in recent years, the Philippines has drawn a lot of interests from British companies which have increasingly become more familiar with the local business environment.

The mission – which has wide representation of large to small British and local companies  – is part of  BCCP’s ongoing project with the UK’s  Department of International Trade and the British embassy in the Philippines to promote trade and investment between the two countries.

Nelson said part of this effort is to focus on small and enterprises in line with one of the goals under the 10-point plan of the Duterte administration which is to look at development outside Metro Manila in this case BCCP chose Mindanao where it sees prospects for ore businesses.

According to Nelson, the mission will pursue leads in various areas including but not limited to agribusiness, infrastructure, information and communication technology, banking, finance and insurance as well as energy.

Day one will see the mission visiting some of the local companies, to be followed by a forum as well as networking and match making sessions on the second day, Nelson said it is through engagements like this that BCCP is able to “plant seeds” for future investments.

BCCP as the voice of British business in the Philippines is part of the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines which  has been pushing among other things easing doing business in the country as what is being advocated by the Duterte administration.

For this mission, the BCCP is being assisted by various organizations mainly Mindanao partners such as Davao Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. Davao City Investment Promotion Center Mindanao Development Authority, Mindanao Business Council, as well as the local government representatives  Tristan Domingo, assistant city administrator, DILG, and the Public Safety Command Center.
