The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 7 and Bohol Province, the local government unit of Tubigon and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) launched the new loom weaving facility of the Tubigon Loomweavers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (TLMPC) on May 2 in Tubigon, Bohol.
The municipality of Tubigon provided funds for the expansion of the TLMPC center building and the new production area where 15 units of new 72-inch metal-framed-metal-reeds upright handlooms are installed through funding from DTI’s shared service facility program.
The new weaving center is part of the ECCP-managed Tubigon Raffia Export Development Program. The program intends to come up with new patterns and explore mix-media weaving. It also aims to upgrade TLMPC from a cooperative to being an organized and professional business entity capable of creating and marketing successful product lines.
The Tubigon Raffia Export Development Program was ushered by ECCP Materials R&D that promotes creativity through new material manipulation, reinvention and rejuvenation of designs and indigenous materials,
