Entrusted to grow the country’s coffers and ensure the efficient movement of imported and exported goods, the Bureau of Customs is a vital pillar in providing funds for the government’s poverty reduction programs and infrastructure projects, as well as in sustaining confidence in the country’s business and economic environment. In light of the recurrent controversies concerning smuggling, and long-perceived inefficiencies and corruption in the bureau’s processes and personnel, Commissioner Biazon is expected to discuss his plans and programs for the BOC in responding to these challenges, and the steps being taken to institute the necessary reforms.
