Mental Wellness: Introduction to Psychological First Aid

23Mar
Trainings

Psychological first aid is defined as a 'humane, supportive response to a fellow human being who is suffering and who may need support' (WHO, 2011). It helps normalize worry and other overwhelming emotions and provide feelings of safety, calming, and hope. It is also designed to help individuals build resilience and support themselves. While it is not intended as a long-term solution, this method of care is valuable and timely during an emergency, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic.

It is without a doubt that the outbreak of COVID-19 has created concern and worry among many individuals. Psychological First Aid is the answer to supporting people experiencing stress, anxiety, and uncertainty associated with the COVID19 pandemic.

By the end of the session, attendees are expected to :

  1. To identify evidence-based Psychological First Aid responses for people enduring the COVID19 crisis
  2. Create plans to support and care for themselves while responding to people in crisis
