As technology advances, and as the Philippines positions itself to embrace sustainable practices, the need for robust IP rights becomes a fundamental driver for innovation. Intellectual property not only safeguards the interests of creators and innovators but also fuels the growth of industries that are critical to addressing the challenges we are currently facing — most notably, the need for a green transition.
The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) recognizes that a strong IP framework is essential for encouraging technological innovation, particularly in green technologies that promote sustainability and environmental stewardship. As the world increasingly shifts toward sustainable practices, the Philippines must harness innovation as a central pillar of its economic growth and environmental responsibility.
To accelerate this transition, the Chamber aims to foster a conducive environment for the development, protection, and commercialization of green technologies. Moreover, ECCP remains steadfast in its commitment to engage with key public and private stakeholders, including the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), to further incentivize technological innovation and support the country's green transition.
To this end, ECCP is organizing a Luncheon Meeting with IPOPHL Director General Atty. Brigitte M. da Costa-Villaluz on 25 June 2025. The upcoming luncheon meeting will provide a platform for open dialogue on how IPOPHL's recent initiatives, including its Green Technology Incentive (GreenTech) Program, can help drive forward both innovation and sustainability, while fostering greater collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Through this meeting, ECCP aims to explore how the government and business communities can work together to strengthen IP policies, encourage green innovation, and ultimately, ensure that the Philippines remains at the forefront of technological and environmental progress. Furthermore, it will serve as a valuable platform for industry leaders to share insights, address challenges, and contribute to policy discussions that will shape the future of business and investment in the Philippines.
