IT Certification Exams Set in Bacolod

Fresh graduates as well as professionals in the field of information technology will now have the chance to take the Philippine Information Technology General Certification Examination (PHIL-IT GCE) in Bacolod.

The Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT), Inc. will host the PHIL-IT GCE on February 3 and 4, 2012 to be held inside the West Negros University campus.

BNEFIT supports to the growth of the ICT-BPO industry in Bacolod and in promoting our city and the province as an ideal outsourcing destination in the Philippines since 2008. Among our goals is to develop a very conducive business environment to drive investments and generate jobs in the province by addressing the issue of talent supply,

In line with these goals, BNEFIT founder Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said, "we are partnering with the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (CEDF-IT) in collaboration with www.itpros.ph, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), and the European IT Service Center Foundation (EITSC) for the holding of PHIL-IT GCE."

The PHIL-IT GCE is considered as an overall evaluation of the graduate’s level of cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning as specified in B.S. Computer Science; B.S. Computer Engineering; B.S. Information Technology; and, B.S. Information Management curricula, as well as the graduate’s knowledge, skills, and attitudes pertinent to advanced or latest trends in IT as required by industry.

The PHIL-IT GCE consists of a cluster of generic examinations that likewise assesses the graduate’s overall readiness to become a professional in both IT subjects and non-IT subjects.

In a way, the PHIL-IT GCE serves as an interim solution for the need for a board examination, testing the IT skills of Filipino would-be professionals, with IT skills set by Filipino IT professionals, yet addressing international industry benchmarks.

Competencies covered by the examinations are fundamentals of discrete math (10%), programming and professional ethics, Systems including basic computer organization and architecture, programming languages, and operating system; and applications such as business math, basic statistics, business processes and applications, basic database and information management, and networking.
